Work in progress for Academy’s 1/72 F-51D Mustang (Korean). I bought this little kit for about $5 at local department store (sadly they are gone now, the kits section i mean). Nice little kit that has a good fit, except for the wing root, there are some gaps that must be filled. Cockpit section is good enough, it has raised details, a simple dry brush will make it good (but seems useless, the canopy is too thick, that it will distort light, making it blurry). And a jeep is included, a nifty little jeep cool, reviewed later .

Construction begin with painting the cockpit interior green, blacking the instrument panels, dry brush it with silver, then added red/green patch for dials (spurious spot ). The next step is to glue the fuselage half and wing half, the masking the canopy. Propeller is attached before joining the fuselage half. Then fill the gaps in wing roots with putty, let it dry, the sand it down. Checking done by painting silver on the sanded part, and looking for imperfect surface.  I temporary attached the flaps for painting (gonna pose it down later).

Painting process begin with matte black spray (at the moment i still don’t have airbrush set … ), next is the silver paint (before that, propeller and anti glare part is masked). After paint are cured, i wash the the panel lines with black gundam marker and paint the wheel wells interior green. Then the exhausts and decals are placed. Next the mustang coated with clear paint (glossy one). With the clear coats is cured, the rest of masking is removed. Last part is to attach the landing gears (already painted, of course). Now the mustang is 95% done … it stopped there, hehehe … it’s not done yet (I’m too lazy, maybe next time, after I finished the 1/100 Astraea ).

NB:

Duh, sebenernya ingin banget ngeKIT, harus jadi satu akhir minggu ini … masih berpikir, melanjutkan Arado Ar234, Aero L-29 Delphin, MDD F-15E Eagle, Cutty Shark, Gundam Astraea, GN-X III, Dendrobium, Zeta Plus C1, P-51D Mustang, atau yang lain …. arrrghhhhh pusing juga. Sebaiknya main HAWX, Lost Planet atau Bioshock dulu (nah loh) …. hahahaha

Its life of a “gadgeters”, always (more often, maybe) carrying devices everywhere, anytime. That’s included me; I had several devices that I mostly carried around. Mostly are in form of telephone handset, they are Motorola Zine ZN5, Motorola Rokr E6, Samsung SGH-i550w and Sony PSP (laptop was too big to be considered as portable gadget). Rokr E6 is the oldest one (nearly 2 years in possessions), while others rather new (except PSP, 1 year old).

3 telephone handset? No. Actually I only use ZN5 as telephone (and snapshot camera) whiles the i550w served as high-speed modem for mobile internet connection plus GPS navigation aid with secondary telephony function, and the Rokr E6 relegated from phone to multimedia player. PSP is portable gaming console (yeah!).

Linux kernel 2.6 GSM/EDGE phone with embedded 5.0 Mega pixels Kodak camera. Excellent camera quality in good lighting environment, powerful Xenon flash, has panorama mode. Auto focus works very quickly, has macro mode. TFT screen (240×320 pixels, 18-bit colors). Has 3.5mm audio jack with very good audio quality, 400Mb internal memory and fitted with microSD slot (theoretically can accept 32 GB card, since its SDHC slot – sadly it’s not hot swap capable). Has FM Radio too. Using GSM/EDGE, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi and micro USB cable (USB 2.0) for communication.

Symbian 9.2 S60v3 FP1 GSM/EDGE/3G/HSDPA phone with embedded 3.0 Mega pixels camera with auto focus and LED flash. Camera quality is very good, but auto focus mechanism is slow and an awkward way to shoot (single press trigger, instead of focus-and-snap trigger). TFT screen (240×320 pixels, 18-bit colors). Has 3.5mm audio jack with excellent audio quality. 160Mb internal memory and fitted with SDHC microSD slot (hot swap capable). Has internal GPS receiver (I’m using Garmin Mobile XT as GPS navigation aid). Has FM Radio too. Using GSM/EDGE/3G/HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi and proprietary USB cable (USB 2.0) for communication.

Trusty Motorola Rokr E6 running RockBox

Linux kernel 2.4 GSM/EDGE phone with embedded 2.0 Mega pixels camera fixed focus with macro mode, no flash. Camera quality is average one. Touch screen TFT  (240×320 pixels, 18-bit colors) Has 3.5mm audio jack with excellent audio quality and dedicated music player control key. 10Mb internal memory and fitted with hot swap-able microSD slot (ordinary one, accept up to 4 GB memory). Has FM Radio. Using GMS/EDGE, Bluetooth 2.0 and mini USB cable (USB 2.0) for communication. Truly hack able phone (well you can install Google Android platform in this phone, Openmoko too, works in progress)

Sony PSP

Nuff said, actually this is Playstation 2 in compact and portable form. Plus it has WiFi.

All of them are companied by single Philips audio earplug (because all of them has 3.5mm audio jack, it saves me from carrying more audio headset).

Except for the PSP, they are cheapest from their group (because I only have limited budget available, plus benefited for being single – well, that s***). But being cheapest from the group doesn’t mean they are less capable. The i550w can stand toe-to-toe with more expensive Nokia N78/E66, and audio quality is better. While the ZN5 can be compared to more expensive Sony Ericsson C905, albeit it’s better in picture quality. Rokr E6? This phone is nearly un-dead and hack able, audio quality is excellent, with RockBox/exmms installed it can play wide range of audio format. PSP – doesn’t really have comparable devices (NDS is different in concept).

Akhirnya register juga di pixiv.net, cari-cari gambar aneh yang lucu-lucu, ternyata memang banyak ..

Beware: situs pixiv.net berbasa Jepang, dan tag kontennya biasanya (kebanyakan) menggunakan bahasa/tulisan Jepang, so kalau pengguna GNU/Linux desktop user bisa install anthy+scim, M$ Windoze bisa install IME Jepang untuk menulis dengan karakter Jepang.

This time … updates for Condor 1/72 MiG-21UM Mongol. As previous entry, my Mongol lying derelict waiting for undercarriages installation, which I able to do it recently (I’m so lazy, the undercarriages consist less than 10 parts …). With it’s big tail, the Mongol nearly become tail-sitter. Slight paint touch-up on engine exhaust and panel lines. I installed K-13 training round (supposed to be, created from trimming the fins of generic K-13/sidewinder provided ), however I don’t have references for K-13 training round paint, so I just paint it white with 3 black lines just like other russian A-A training round (I’ve seen R-60/R-17 training rount painted that way).

Any way it’s already done … at least (next project comming up ^_^)

Ini desktop GNU/Linux yang saat ini saya pakai, berbasis OpenSUSE 10.3 plus repository yang lain; bagi saya sangat nyaman untuk digunakan di rumah sebagai desktop multimedia (sekarang udah jarang nge-game, jadi jarang-jarang pakai M$ Windows). Kalau sudah di-custom sendiri memang enak, untuk player audio saya pakai Audacious dan Amarok, untuk video ada MPlayer beserta backend-nya, untuk grafis ada GiMP, krita, Inkscape, dll. Distro OpenSUSE sendiri cukup enak digunakan ‘out-of-box’ bagi user biasa maupun para geek. Mungkin bagian frustasinya kalau tidak kenal paketnya buat apa … namanya aneh-aneh.

Sejak mengenal GNU/Linux (10 tahun lalu waktu masih kernel 1.x), saya merasa memang OS ini menarik (walau suka bingung juga, tapi itu menariknya) … Sudah beberapa distro saya pakai, mulai dari Slackware (1998), Caldera (1999-2000), SUSE 6.1, RedHat 8/9, Mandrake 7/8 (2001), Mandrake 9.2 (2002-2004), SUSE 9.1 (2004-2005), Ubuntu 5.10 (2005-2007), Ubuntu 7.04 (2007), dan OpenSUSE 10.3 (2007-sekarang). Itu pun yang terinstall lama di PC, sisanya banyak walau sekedar coba-coba saja.

Bukannya fanatik, cuma saja OS ini cocok bagi saya pribadi, aman dan nyaman; M$ Windows pun masih saya pakai (bajakan boo…), paling hanya untuk main game berbasis DirectX yang tidak berjalan di Wine, Cedega maupun CrossOver Game. Mungkin lain kali mau coba-coba dengan FreeBSD …

Model kit armor pertama yang pernah saya rakit (2003), tak lama setelah merakit Aile Strike Gundam; masih heboh-hebohnya kena sindrom model kit. Beli di sebuah swalayan di Bogor, kit buatan Academy-Korea skala 1/35 ini besar kardusnya, banyak pula isinya. Berwarna dasar coklat muda, dan membutuhkan lem untuk dirakit (beli lem juga akhirnya).

Karena sudah kebelet bikin, akhirnya sistem SKS dijalankan lagi. Kali ini dengan kerja extra: me-lem dan membetulkan fitnya. Cat hanya cat minyak dan cat poster saja, untuk efek-efek weathering, walau ala melukis apa yang ada di otak; warna dasar dibiarkan menggunakan warna plastiknya. Begadang semalaman, akhirnya jadi juga (waktu itu masih pengganguran kerja, banyak waktu ).

Kalau dilihat-lihat semua jenis “kesalahan modeler amatir” sepertinya ada pada hasil akhir kit ini, seperti: sink-mark masih kelihatan, tanpa dempul, silvering decal, dll. sebutkan saja.

Tetapi sidrom model kit dalam semalam tetap berlanjut (masih banyak kit ala SKS) …. cerita akan berlanjut ….

Sesuai dengan judulnya, ini cerita tentang model kit yang tidak di cat (dalam artian seluruh modelnya walau ada beberapa bagian yang dicat untuk efek karena minim sarana/prasarana hehehe ). Ini model kit pertama saya (tahun 2003) setelah hampir 15 tahun tidak membuat kit (jaman SD, pernah membuat kit pesawat 1/72 Hasegawa A-7/A-4/AH-64/SH-60/Mi-24 (semuanya abu-abu, the grey ghost squadron).

Karena memang kena sindrom model kit, pengennya cepat-cepat jadi, maka dirakitlah kit ini (Bandai MG 1/100 Aile Strike Gundam, beli di sebuah toko hobi di Bogor). Ala SKS (sistem kebut semalem) maka jadilah bendanya, ditambah sedikit aksen hitam di sudut-sudutnya menggunakan cat minyak). Untungnya kit ini, plastiknya sudah berwarna (tipikal kit gundam), dan snap-construction serta fitnya sangat bagus; walhasil jadinya memang bisa semalam, walau partnya hampir berjumlah 370 buah.

Kalau di lihat-lihat sekarang, suka senyum sendiri (koq jadinya kayak gini sih … )

Bandai MG 1/100 MS-14B/C Gelgoog (Johnny Rider’s Custom)

Dimulai dari sekitar tahun 1990 (masih umur 11 tahun) dibelikan orang tua komputer Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Komputer yang unik, output display via TV, media penyimpanan kaset (serupa dengan kaset musik), dengan bahasa pemograman BASIC, jadi bikin dulu programnya baru bisa main (intinya dulu buat main …). Setelah itu, sekitar tahun 1992; dibelikan komputer saku Casio PB-200, “kalkulator” ampuh, paling ampuh di SMP dengan keyboard QWERTY, bahasa BASIC, jadi bisa bikin macro rumus-rumus matematik/fisika.

Di era yang sama juga pertama kali menyentuh komputer mikro, waktu itu komputerku Epson PC-9801 (laptop berprosesor NEC kelas 80286) dengan memori 1 Mb + 2 Mb EMS, 2 buah floppy 1 Mb (iya 1 Mb, bukan 1.44 Mb), layar monokrom dengan adapter EGA. Dengan komputer ini saya mengenal Microsoft (dengan MS-DOS-nya), mulai dengan MS-DOS versi 1.25, 2.25, 3.0, 3.3, 4.0; aplikasi seperti WordStar 3.0 dan 4.0. (Jadul booo )

Di era yang sama pula, saya menggunakan PC desktop dengan prosesor AMD 80286-16Mhz, 1 Mb RAM, 18 Mb Harddisk (18 Mb … kakakakaka), dan adapter VGA. Dibekali dengan MS-DOS 5.0 sampai akhirnya versi 6.22 plus game-game, ini benda menjadi mainan sehari-hari (intinya masih buat main). Game-game DOS dulu gameplaynya menyenangkan. Ketertarikan dengan Microsoft Windows pun di mulai dengan menginstall Windows 1.0 (dedengkotnya Windows), sampai Windows 3.11; karena sudah maksimal penggunaannya masanya berakhir sekitar tahun 1995.

Tahun 1995-an dimulai dengan PC berprosesor Intel Pentium 75Mhz, 8 Mb RAM, 80 Mb Harddisk, adapter SVGA. Kegilaan bermain game berlanjut. Sayang baru beberapa bulan, bendanya terbakar bersama Plaza Internusa Bogor (sekarang Pangrango Plaza). Sempat digantikan dengan PC berprosesor AMD 80486DX4-100Mhz, 8 Mb RAM, 40 Mb Harddisk, adapter SVGA; dan akhirnya di gantikan oleh PC Intel Pentium 133Mhz, 16 Mb RAM, 3.2 Gb Harddisk plus adapter SVGA. Masa-masa SMA-pun diakhiri dengan PC ini.

Kuliah dimulai tahun 1998, tertarik dengan komputer, maka saya mengambil jurusan Teknik Komputer di sebuah Universitas di Depok (gigiran Margonda). PC pun di ganti dengan PC AMD K6-2 350Mhz, 32 Mb RAM, 10 Gb Harddisk, plus adapter SVGA-3D (jaman-jaman DirectX 3); hebatnya PC ini masih selamat, hidup sejahtera dengan tambahan RAM hingga 384 Mb dan 20 Gb Harddisk dengan Windows XP SP2. Dengan PC ini pula perjalanan saya dengan Linux dimulai (ini artikel lain lagi … ).

Sembari kuliah, dan bekerja, sekitar tahun 2000 akhirnya mampu membeli PC dengan uang sendiri; sebuah PC AMD Athlon 1GHz, 256 Mb RAM, dan 40 Gb Harddisk + SVGA-3D (kelas DirectX 5). PC ‘mainstay’ yang bertahan lama, masih selamat dengan konfigurasi akhir menjadi 512 Mb RAM dan 80 Gb Harddisk, dengan OS Windows XP SP2.

Sampailah saya dengan PC yang sedang di pakai (dimulai dari tahun 2005, diupgrade perlahan), sebuah AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 1 Gb RAM, 250 Gb Harddisk, GeForce 6200 + LCD WSXGA+ 19 inci. Tetap bertahan sampai sekarang dengan OS OpenSUSE 10.3 custom ;P, tak banyak lagi bermain game (mungkin hanya game-game remake atau emulator) karena sudah cukup punya Sony PSP. Utilitas sebagai media center dan programming/kerja yang baik sementara sudah tercapai (sambil nabung mau beli multicore CPU + tetek bengeknya, mungkin dari AMD lagi).

Perjalanan yang cukup panjang dan menyenangkan …
